Longish spin on Sunday

Nigel is leading our club ride this Sunday. It'll be a fairly long spin but people can opt out halfway if you like (except Steve). It'll start in Masseys Wood, then up over Cruagh to the Military Road. From there the route is along the side of Glencree Valley to Cloon Wood and finally on to Crone Wood. Probably taking the easy route back on the road. Meet up at the Yellow House at 10am and contact Nigel with any questions.

    hey folks.
What a day yesterday was! end of october and it was absolutely
stunning out. i have no sympathy for those of you who didn't turn
up....unless they were cutting hedges in tuam or something.

Myself, Sean, Thomas, Tom, Kev and Raul (spell?) set off from YH at
about 1030. Headed up to Massies along that horrible climb up to the
road above Cruagh. down the road and then into Cruagh car park.
climbed up on the fireroad until we got to the first turn off to the
right. Lovely muddy, puddley, soaking class climb from here.
eventually got to a nice bit of DH that took us to military road.
    Really fun.

Down the road until we got to a barrier at ..... Glencree valley ( i
think?...never picked up the name....) was fairly flat until we saw
some nice descents off a cluster of big hills. Thomas and Sean both
attempted the descent and both were very impressive.....no
spills...yet! continued along the trail through the mud and rocks
until we got to sean's favourite part of the spin...hehehe. if only we
had a video of it! he's front tyre was eaten by a massive muddy
hole.....if anyone has some suggestions of what to call the hole then
fire away! hilarious to watch it tho. fair play sean...highlight of
    the spin!

found our way to the gap in the woods that morgan told us about. nice
descent through cloon into the trees. all the jumps will be attempted
next time i'm sure. went along the road here until the right hand turn
for the wicklow way. made our way down to kilakee (i think) and then
up the fireroad a bit until that nice descent. i don't think anybody
had a spill there. good laugh.

Turned left at the bottom until the place opposite some hostel where
we had to lift our bikes over the fence. most of us got down all the
steps and all the way to the bottom where the bridge is. The man
himself Thomas gave the water crossing a go! nearly made it.....but
may have had some wet feet after!

climbed up to crone car park (kev left us at this stage) and then onto
the corner that over looks the waterfall. Stunning view from here. We
were astounded by the weather once again. thomas led the way through
the forest after a quick break. lovely descents through crone
especially the one with the wall.

got down to the car park again after an incident involving
somebody.... (coughs) and then prepared ourselves for the long slog
home. stopped in Enniskerry and then set off again.

really enjoyed the spin and special mention to raul and tom and kev.
all did very well!.....especially Raul on that 'bike'. quite the
    savage

Very special mention to Raul who made it all the way on one of our biggest
    spin with his "bike"!
When you look at it somehow you knew it was from the last Century (5 years
ago). Judge by yourself : front rim had many lose spokes, both tyres had
cracks, the most impressive being the front one which was totally worn out.
Don't ask me how he managed to steer in the muddy descents... Or break ...
Both breaks have an ornamental function, barely slowing him down in DH
sections. On top of that , bike was squeeeeeking horribly. You could hear
it endlessly when he was catching you in the uphills. Savage! This Spaniard
was catching you on any uphills with this "bike" ...
Finally, I forgot to mention, he never crashed or punctured : I had two
punctures, Sean one on his motorbike style back tyre.

Special mention as well to Tom. On his first Sunday spin, he followed us
without any problem and really did well.
