Night Spins this week: Tues 25th and Thurs 27th (7pm)

Howdy All!
Night spins are back on the calendar - bring on the night!!!

Note:
You must have been on a night spin previously, and have fully charged proper night-lights.

You also MUST HAVE a red rear light for the road - anyone not meeting these minimum safety requirements will not be permitted on the spin.
I also HIGHLY RECOMMEND people have glasses to protect your eyes from branches etc..
not only for night spins but every time you are out on your bike!

ALDI have them this week for only 4 euro! - get your self 2 pairs, don't take chances with your vision - they're the only pair of eyes you are ever likely to own!!!

You should also always carry your mobile with you and ensure AT LEAST 2 OTHER PEOPLE on the spin have your number so you can call them if you get injured.

ALDI have biking gear this week:
warm jackets, leggings, socks,
thermals, gloves, caps, overshoes,
lights (basic road lights) -
all at very cheap prices - kit yourself up for winter now - the stuff is great value for money.

Specific beginners night spins will be scheduled at suitable looations a later stage.

Tuesday will be SAVAGE-paced, suitable fast intermediates/experienced riders only. Venue is Leadmines - meet & park your car at Palmers Golden Ball pub at 7pm.

We'll do some laps of the EPIC club course and a few loops of Barnaslingan forest,
might even do Catty Gallaghers....

Thursday will be an EASIER-paced spin.
Venue is 3Rock.
Meet at Taylors pub at 7pm, ~7:15 at Ticknock.

Hope to see ye out!!

Fergal

I'll be breaking out my luminous tweed suit for this one.

like I said earlier Morgan, I just don't know where you get them, but I like them
"Dashing Tweeds" - I mean, you just couldn't make that kind of stuff up!!

I've a pair of Plus 5's on order, and feel confident taking my puchase to the trails because "Tweed is no longer twee" as that indispensable document of style & haute-couture, the Financial Times - assures me

A fast dry great spin on perfect trails tonight with an absolutely massive turnout for the first official MAD night spin of the year!!!!

Ok - one of those statements is not true - which one?
Well, Ollie, Cait and myself know exactly which one!

The folowing have provided me with either sick notes, or notes from their mammies as to why they could not come biking:
Steve, Oisin, Conor - so no smacks with teachers stick for these children, but as for the rest of ye.....well now....

Admittedly it was classed as a savage spin but there's Ollie stepping up to the mark and saying "yeah, I'll give it a go" and he was flying along, a fine example of the attitude this club needs.
And Cait just back from injury and a tough race over at the British NPS and cycled all the way to Palmers in that cold wind and tearing around Leadmines and Barnaslingan - deadly!

Morgan! you said you were coming, I didn't see any luminous tweed on the spin, you are lucky I am in such good humour after watching those 2 videos of 'tachey-performers' again,

where's Sean Downey, and Paddy, and Cormac - you too, and Oisin FitzSuperSavage, the list of bold children goes on...

I'm going to be challenging some of those lads on the easier spins to get out on tougher ones over the next few months, I am watching ye ;-)

There better be a fuller turnout Thurs night or I'll push ye all off the Tree Trunk of Trauma blindfolded in a shopping trolley full of ssssssnakesssss and gorse!

right, I'm off to riddle some baddies in Half Life 2 - what a game!

Hey Fergal J. Didn't make it out but I got 1.5 bikes built up so I have something to ride now. You should excuse Sean too - it's a long way from the North Shore to Palmers.

  • At 8:52 a.m., Blogger Fergal said…

ok, looking forward to seing you on your 1.5 bike on Thursday!
...is that inches or millimeteres of travel?

Sean is still over there eh?
that's some holiday, will he be using terms like "huck big or die" or "launch gnarly air" when he returns?
Will MADjestic be his new home?
Will he forsake cyclo' for freeride?

So many questions...only one man can answer them.....

i just did a quick spin around masseys before my traditional night in the boozer. Nowadays i'm more soft and cuddly then savage anyway! ;-)

Lucky i didn't go to the leadmines as i had forgotten to charge my lights so they only lasted 10 minutes!

    I'm clever me!

a not-so-good turn out for 3 Rock but regardless we hit some excellent trails and had a great spin, those specifically made by MAD naturally.

It was good to see Tom bringin' it on again, Ciaran and Conor were also out enjoying the amazing night , dry, not cold and hard fast trails.

The Tree trunk of Trauma in the dark is such fun - put it on your list of things to do before
your mid life crisis/leaving cert/losing your virginity.

Ciaran was busy testing out the durability of his lycra shorts by sliding down a bank on his rump - off the brakes Ciaran - you should have listened to me - Conor got down it just fine when he convinced himself that off the brakes can be the best way to go sometimes!
The transition across and descent of the boneshaker was totally exhilarating

nice one lads, see ye next time

Morgan - you better send me a funny video..

    Here you go Fergal.

I learned everything I needed to know about life from that video.

I'll be out next week for sure. The bike is built up. The batteries are charged. Now I just need to make a crude helmet mount for my lights.

Have to say had a super spin last night, Fergal picked a very good route and showed great patience by waiting at any junctions lest one of us got lost...

On a slightly different note, I was very impressed with MADjestic, it rides so so well, that first section(?) was a hoot, hats off to Mr Kilkenny and those who helped him it's a credit to you all

hey anonymous, if you are doing easy spins with no lights at all then it sounds like you are challenged enough...
