MAD Club Champs 2007

You voted, we listened, and Saturday Dec 1st will be the day for the ultimate MTB & mince pie event of the year! Meet at Taylors car park at 10.30 for a leisurely ride up to the race venue.

Checkout the Race Route here

The event will consist of a wickedly handicapped race with various challenges afterwards. Fancy dress is encouraged and will be worth your while. Anyone who shows up on an incorrect bike (BMX, shopper, recumbent etc.) will also be richly rewarded.
We will then be retiring to Taylors Three Rock pub for some finger-food (food made from real fingers) and refreshments.
After we've been cocktail-sausaged-up, we'll be having our AGM, where we'll be reviewing the year, previewing next year, and of course, handing over the Club Champs trophy to the worthy winner, we'll also be giving out prizes for various 'acheivements' throughout the year.

We look forward to seeing you there on the day, and on the night also, when we'll be meeting in the Bull and Castle pub at approx. 8pm for a night of talking about how most of us were crually denied our opportunity to be Club Champs and othersuch guff.

This is the route for the 2007 MAD Club Champs.

    2 rider classes:
    1: Fast (for sports riders)
2: Furious (for demented savage riders)

Route sections for Fast riders in GREEN
Route sections for Fast riders in RED
    Common routes in YELLOW

    Mass start at the aerials.
All riders head toward Fairy, Furious riders head up the rocky climb, while Fast riders break left up the fireroad.
Both routes will then intersect at Satellite Run.
Follow Satellite Run and lower small singletrack section until you exit onto the fireroad, turn left on the fireroad and head up.

    Fast riders:
Follow the fireroad around by the aerials for a 2nd loop of the same course.

    Furious riders:
Go up the fireroad a small bit and then break right down the rocky path and then hang a sharp left at the bottom.
Follow the narrow singletrack across and then down the rocky-drop bank and onto the fireroad.
Turn left up the fireroad to the aerials and then do a 2nd loop
On the 2nd loop you will turn RIGHT at the end of the rocky path (where you turned left on the 1st loop) and then head down hill and left halfway down this path and into Rock n Roll.

    Fast riders:
On your 2nd loop you will turn right down the rocky path, (this is the one the Furious riders went down), turn RIGHT at the end of the rocky path and then head down hill and left halfway down this path and into Rock n Roll.

    Fast and Furious:
Exit Rock N Roll and head down the path just a little and then up the bank to the left into the Blue Oyster trail
This trail will exit right opposite the old MAD club course (lower section)
You will go straight into the old MAD club course

Fast riders: 1 loop of the old MAD club course

Furious riders: 2 loops of the old MAD club course

After exiting the old MAD club course, turn left up the fireroad a little and then turn into the right up the bank and then up to your left along CrossMax.

Follow this trail all the way along until it exits onto the lower fireroad (you will have a view over Dublin from this fireroad)
Turn up the fireroad to the left and stop at the barrier - race over!!!

Will we all get a GPS system as I am getting lost just by reading this?

  • At 10:45 a.m., Blogger Fergal said…

checkout the map (in the body of the blog entry also)
you should know your way around 3 rock by now Cormac!

Also, we will be marking the course with yellow spray (I will kill anyone who asks if it is biodegradeable) and will be doing an initial reconaissance run, so people should be ok.
Anyone who has Garmins can record the course on this run if they want to.

Have a REALLY good look at the map and perhaps print it off and bring it with you on the day if you feel you need to.

It a bit worrying when the 2 catagories are fast and furious - what does a joe/josephine blog who has been on a few spins call him/herself out there trying to stay alive on the rothar - don't mind navigating around a maze with sweaty competitive bikers whizzing past - Considering that he/she may be BUPA or VHI negative - serious injury plages this driving miss daisy -and will he or she be laughed at when he/she makes it around the course in light years rather than minutes - please enlighen this rookie!!!

  • At 8:49 a.m., Blogger Fergal said…

settle yourself now joe/josephine, note that you'd need to make up your mind what sex you are before you do this race :-)

    Don't nobody worry about nuttin'!

It'll all be fine, emphasis is on fun.
Some people will be baytin' around the course, some cruising, some less-than-cruising - doesn't matter.

Those who want to can opt for one loop of the top section instead of two - whoever wants to do one loop come to the committee and we'll size you up.

If it looks to the committee like you could do 2 loops no probs then you'll be told "feck-off - 2 loops for you you chancing fecker!".

Any objections and your names will be given to the marshalls and you'll be made eat extra mince pies!

People will be asked to seperate into 2 main groups ('fast' and 'furious' was more politically correct than 'shite' and 'deadly'), with a small - now I mean SMALL - 3rd group of slower riders.

Again, if the committee deem you are in the wrong group for your capabilities, you'll be put in the 'right' group.

Oisin Boydell has volunteered to do some marshalling, if anyone else would like to marshall then drop a post here.

Note - We'll be doing a mass line-up at the beginning to film a mini-clip of everyone saying:

"I'm gonna be the MAD 2007 Club Champ because..."

the best reason will earn extra points, you have to look real mean and serious for this one so start practicing in the mirror today!

Also practice your battle-roars for the mass start, I anticipate something like the scenes from 300, or Lord of the Rings (no acting the Gollum now) or Gladiator
    ....

i'll marshall or do some form of organising thing

  • At 5:53 p.m., Blogger Paddy said…

being on a bike once in about 4 weeks, brain is banjaxed, had already said i'd do it ages ago, chicken, funny arm syndrome, and i'll most likely have a savage hangover too!

  • At 8:28 p.m., Blogger Conor said…

Ehh.... if my fancy dress has the potential to slow me down, which it will, and I'm a clunker on a bike, is it ok if I go slowly?(please???)

bring your mouldiest hangover then Byrner, don't get sick on my lovely track though!
if Morgan gets the bells delivered in time you'll be driven demented within 10 mins...

Steve - what's up with your knee? Do you have Oisins affliction?
The painkillers won't go well with your birthday beer that night.....or maybe they will.....

  • At 11:04 p.m., Blogger Stephen said…

Yeah it would seem like a similar thing. Oisin said something about it being an affliction as a result of being overly savage so I must have that too :P Painkillers and beer u say? Sounds like a fun way to experience being legal!

Saturday was a great day :) Bit of racing in the morning (damn the wind and cold...). Fingerfood, AGM and lots of chatting around lunch and a great night out afterwards. Was about to head to the party after the Bull but ended up not - I regret that now!

Good job to everyone who did the organization for the days events - worked really well...

Looking forward to the Mad Christmas Lash :)

it was pure Bohemian debauchery Cormac, all Morgans fault of course, it afforded us an interesting peek into his past, I'd say he got up to some wild stuff back in his student days...

You should have seen Tom Cruise Cocktail in action, mixing those mojitos like a pro - when he wasn't missing the glass completely with the Bacardi that is, there was an amazing smell of limes of everything, I woke up with one in my jacket pocket - a present from Tom as far as I recall

Should have seen Tom cruises eyes at my Dad's distant relation. 25 my foot Tom! You'll be 18 soon at this rate of age loss!!!
