NPS Round 1 at Castlewellan

Castlewellan course
There's only 4 days to go until the first round of the 2006 NPS series. XMTB are holding the race in Castlewellan Forst Park, Co. Down. This is an excellent venue and they've laid out a fantastic course. There's always a huge turnout for this race and we hope to have a good contingent from MAD attending (see Sean's email for details). We'll need support and spectators too, so bring the whole family. It's well worth the journey

I've just received word that the MAD Team Marqee has arrived. Racers will be able to shelter from the hot hot sun before and after the race. Bring your own deckchair.

Is it lookin likely that the MAD jerseys are going to arrive before the weekend?? I was hoping to at least look good whilst comin in somewhere near the bottom......

don't think the jerseys are going to make it lads :(

The jerseys are currently sitting in a UPS depot in Frankfurt and are only going to get here on Monday. This will probably leave a lot of people confused about what to wear on Sunday but I'll do my best to provide sound fashion advice.

I find the all in one rubber body suit a la John Tomac (circa 1994) will suit my required slippery aerodynamics and my beer gut right down to the ground

I drove up there last night for a quick spin. It took about 2:15 to get there from Dundrum (but that was in the evening).

The course is good. It starts with a fireroad climb that turns right into a steep climb (Queue leg burning sensation). You then enter some nice single track, then hit another short climb. From there, the rest of the course is tight (techincal in places) single track and fireroad.

The course is a lot of fun and no one should have any problems getting around it.

    See ya'll tomorrow!

To anyone thinking about racing - do it! It's great fun and then next NPS is close to us.
