Saturday and Sunday spins

Hey all.

Geoff will be taking a spin on Saturday morning at 10am at the Yellow House in Rathfarnham. 3rock, wocca woccas and who knows where else! Any queries, contact Geoff.

I will be out for some major boozing on Saturday night so I'll be going for a spin at 11am. It will be local enough but I'm open to suggestions! Any queries/suggestions then contact me.

yea Oisin pointed my mistake out to me too! 11am at the yellow house on sunday. As i said, i'll be in some state on Sunday morning so I will be taking it easy enough. How about we call it an Intermediate spin. The pace will be faster than Saturdays and Beginner spins so be warned. no harm in coming ablong to try it anyway. there will be opt out points. Tom if you fancy going further afield then go for it of course, also if you want to go earlier then say so....

You really should get a proper mountainbike - a hybrid just isn't designed to be ridden on technical trails and won't really stand up to much abuse.

However, if it's working for you then you're more than welcome to come along on the Giant. Just don't blame us if something falls off...

Great spin on Sat in some glorious October sunshine
Denise, Oisin, Tom, Graham, Shane, Ciaran, and myself were ably led by Geoff who took us from the Yellow House, up to 3 rock via the Boneshaker, from there up to fairy castle for some fresh air and photos.
Down off fairy castle and Tom and Geoff performed some extreme-dismount type action
with Geoff performing a painful face plant into the turf, Tom meantime showed-off his rock hoping skills until he hopped one rock too many….what was it he said Geoff?…”go with what you know” or something…classic!

Then the part we were really looking forward to; the wocca-woccas.
Still as fast & whoopy & smooth as ever but now with the addition of a few fallen trees which gave us a good slap in the face, a useful wake-up call for the ‘once-you’re-in-there’s-no-getting-out’ gully, braking and steering skills went out the window due to all the loose rubble in the centre which was a real challenge for all.
After a quick puncture mend from Tom, we were on our way to Cruagh which we climbed then descended – a lot of fun but the descent was over too fast.
Took the road from there to Masseys where I tried livening things up for myself and slid off the bank onto my arm –good ole arm-pads saved me again – but I didn’t notice my speedo had fallen off until the yellow house, so I had to drove back up to the equestrian centre, hopped on the bike & climbed Masseys to the entrance and had a second shot at the descent, luckily finding the speedo on the way
Special recognition to Ciaran for his ‘extreme whizzing’ stunt, hopefully his minor injuries he suffered which will teach him to slow down next time he’s diving into a forest for a leak, and not to forget those bizarre out-of-context comments, the lad is just mad!

Sunday’s spin was another good ‘un with some new trails discovered...but I’ll let Sean or one of the lads tell ye about that one
    ...til the next time…

Dammit ... first nice weekend in ages and i was stuck inside learning first aid.

There'd better be some good injuries for me to deal with (running around in circles panicking) to make it worth my while! ;-)

(and shane, i'm only joking ... no more jumping off things and mangling yourself)

tough timing alright Paddy, we'll get Judith to wear her shades and summer gear next weekend as that charmed the sun before ..

Thanks to Markie Mark the Crominator for that really tasty cake atop 3 rock on Sunday, he thought we'd be all polite and not take him up on his generous offer - think everyone took a bit - I don't think we are his friends anymore...hope u got ur derailleur sorted Mark

PS: Anyone (besides the obvious Mr Downey) doing the cyclo race on Sunday? - for some reason I've made up my mind that I won't like it, but I suppose I should try it first....

Yeah was a real shame to be stuck in the first aid with all the sunshine! Maybe it will end up being useful some spin anyway... (unless your a well endowed woman, still don't understand that one Paddy! You'll have to take me aside some day!!)

Steve .. you really are priceless sometimes. Anyway .. surely its up to your dad to explain that sort of stuff to you.

Hang on .. what feckin age are you .. if you don't know this stuff already you're in serious trouble boy!

  • At 6:27 p.m., Blogger Stephen said…

Yeah I know... Im always having problems that the girls I do be associating with are too well endowed. Just can't figure out to get the 30 compressions thorugh all of that mass!

You must have the same problems Paddy? :P

    This entertained me :D

ah the Sunday spin! who knew there was all that other stuff beside Glencullen Golf Course?? that was cool. 3 rock just doubled in size! I think we'll have to steal EPIC's WHAMMY idea after rob and cormac's collision (or assault!). that was top quality. Cheers to sean for doing the spin - i was in no state to take it! There is a ridiculous amount of potential over that side too! i think we should get our trailbuilding back in gear(or for me to start doing it!)! There's also a really good potential lower section below the newest bit of the club course. it will get rid of that nasty mudfest climb back up to the fireroad anyway! A mini-Happy Valley in there somewhere too.......

In order to clarify these strange comments of steves ... the poor chap was getting all stressed (read: excited) over the prospect of giving CPR to a girl. I think the mechanics of the situation were confusing him.

yeah, well remembered young Shane, we must sacrifice one of the junior members there on our Halloween spin in order to please the Gods of Ballymanduff... also don't forget those cutesy little deer with the little fluffy white arses on them,

Tom tried following one into the wood until he saw the size of daddy-deers' antlers- he backed off real s l o w l y....very wise.

    The bike is recovering slowly.

As for dealing with the deer we encounter, I suggest a mid-ride BBQ. Venison hmmmmmmmm.......

    mmmmmm bbq.

I wonder do they still sell those portable bbqs. I also wonder if Coillte would mind us lighting one in the mountains. I think i'll have to go with the very little common sense I have :(

    You LEGEND TOM hehehehe...

Whos up for a good long spin on Saturday? Id love to do that descent off Price Willies again, that was really deadly once u got a flow.. And see what other fun there is around after? Any takers? (Saturdays the new sunday:D)

  • At 8:33 a.m., Blogger Fergal said…

Long spin on Sat sounds great - that descent is well worth another visit, count me in.
Congrats to the sweety-burger winners Oisin, Nigel and Steve who were the only (except myself) ones ballsy enough to take on the happy valley at night!
Jolly poor show from Tom and Paddy who came down the chicken run at 0.03 km/h, if there was a hot blonde waiting at the end of the valley I'm sure it wouldda been a different story altogether...

  • At 10:04 a.m., Blogger Paddy said…

can't do a long spin on saturday .. and as for that happy valley thing .. next time i tells ya ...

(plus, i'd prefer a brunette to a blond to be perfectly honest!)
