Auf Wiedersehen, Christian!

Photo of Christian
In a cruel twist of fate, soon after upgrading his bike to one from this century, MAD wunderkind Christian (with his accomplice and über-home-baker, Sonia) has to return to Germany to take up a new job. We'll be sorry to see him go, not to mention his endless supply of home-made cakes. He's having a final, farewell ride this Saturday, meeting at the Yellow House at 10am, so be sure to come along and wish him well.

On Sunday, round four of the 2007 NPS takes place in Magheramorne Quarry, near Larne Co. Antrim. This is a totally new race venue, part of the Magheramorne Works redevelopment (read about it on www.magworks.info). The venue and organisation sound promising - "Riders should really enjoy the set up, the course includes a bridge crossing, a tunnel, a lake splash and plenty of single track. Facilities at the venue are great, we will be using the Blue Circle Sailing Club as the race HQ, and this includes access to changing rooms and showers." This should be well worth the journey. Read more below.

Check out the MAD calendar for details of other spins this weekend.

Enjoyable race yesterday, although the course had been a bit over hyped...

"bridge crossing" - a full width road bridge going over a main road.

"a tunnel" - short concrete tunnel under a railway line and road.

"a lake splash" - like cycling through a puddle really.

It was something different at least. More like cycling around a building site than the usual forest/fireroad combination which was a change. Course was fast with no major climbs and the only difficult obstacles were a few steep roll downs (some were dodgy enough though) and short 'kicker' climbs where you were battling for traction and momentum to get over the top.
Great facilites with showers and tea/sandwiches at the end.

Well done to all! I was well chuffed there was no big climbs, only little kickers, some of which had a nice run up to. I struggled with the heat a bit, and with the lightning fast start. Tryed to keep up with Graham and some dude from IMBRC, but lost sight of them towards the end of lap 1. Came 17th in the end, which I'm content enough with as I was on my own for most of laps 2 and 3, so had nobody to chase.
But as all my teachers used to say, must do better !!
Glad of the 3 week break til round 5.
