MAD Club Champs 2006 and MAD AGM

EXTREME TO THE MAXXX!!!
We're finally ready to release details of the 2006 MAD Club Champs. This years race will be an unprecedented extravaganza of xc racing, feats of skill, reckless riding and compulsory mince-pie eating.

The race will take place in Slade Valley, scene of the MAD Dash and now with startling new additions. There is an elaborate points system in operation so the outcome of the champs is hard to predict. Like last year anyone racing in fancy dress will be rewarded, as will anyone who's started biking in the last year. Other points will be awarded at the whim of the race organisers.

The event of the year kicks off at 10.30am on Saturday December 2nd at the Slade car park. Bring mince pies (we don't want to run out mid-race) and festive cheer - it's the start of the MTB Christmas Season.

***Note the change of venue for the AGM***

This years AGM will be held in Minnowbrook Terenure at 7pm. We'll review the past year, make some plans for the year ahead, elect a new committee and most importantly raise a glass to the 2006 Club Champion, recipient of the MAD Perpetual Trophy. You can put yourself forward for a position on the committee in advance or at the meeting. We'd encourage our new club members to get involved too.

I've just had a thought - anyone who does the race on a cyclocross bike, bmx or something else inappropriate will get muchos points.

Here's what went on last year:

I really realy want to go to this :( but unfortunatly I'll be at a wedding in Limerick so won't be able to make the Champs or the AGM.

Can I keep my extra points, for starting riding this year, for next years Champs?? :D

Also, what are the committee positions and are there any nominees for them at present?

does this mean there is no beginner run on saturday? or is everyone just heading up to slade and buzzing around there?

  • At 5:50 p.m., Blogger Fergal said…

Mr Elvis-of-heavy-metal, yes there will not be a beginners spin, however, if you turn-up with an application form:

    http://www.madmtb.com/docs/2007_MAD_Member_Registration.doc

and 20 euro membership fee you will not only be joining Irelands Premier MTB Club, but will also be eligible for prizes in the Club Champs on the day- it's going to be a lot of fun.

What's your favourite Danzig album by the way?

  • At 5:53 p.m., Blogger Fergal said…

Morgan, do we have a volunteer with camera to film this years fun?

i enjoy all danzigs work, especially the misfits, they are brilliant! they would probably be my favorite band, along with beck. so would cycling in slade be off limits to non club members? maybe i'll just head up to massy's instead.

Anyone is welcome to come along and race but only club members will be eligable for prizes.

Mind you, I can't imagine anyone not wanting to be part of Ireland's Premier MTB Club®.

17 days Paddy, there must have been a lapse in there somewhere.....surely that means a lose of points. How many points do i get for giving up in February?? Actually how many points will i get if i still reck of booze from Friday night, although i wouldn't condone that kind of behaviour, but i'm out on the work party friday, anyways i'll be huffin and puffin round the race due to a serious lack of cyclin at the minute, its my time of rest before a big effort in the new year to get race fit.....

Tell me people, is it going to be similar as last year, i.e. a hill climb and a full out XC race or is it just to be an XC race?

  • At 11:04 p.m., Blogger Morgan said…

No hill-climb this year. There will be a mostly-downhill xc race as well as some daring feats of bravery/skill.

Good luck guys this weekend! I'd love to be there but am a little far away to make it... (18,457km last time I checked the GPS)

NZ is going great - Rotorua is just an amazing feat of man made trails. I'm looking forward to seeing the Slade Monster when I get back.

you can cycle out from there, takes 30mins.
If you ask nicely, I may even join you, though I'll be intending to be out there quite early.
Get Oisin to mail me his number tomorrow evening and I'll give him a shout if you want to ride out.

Unfortunately, due to last minute problems (and an unhelpful south Dublin pub) the venue for the AGM has changed. It will now be held in the MAD treehouse in Minnowbook at 6.45pm.

Although the bar was well stocked the last time I checked you should still BYOB just in case.

  • At 10:28 a.m., Blogger Paddy said…

The stocks have dwindled enormously since the last time so BYOB is a good motto for the night!

i never usually like mince pies, but today they were the best things ever!

mincers are an 'athletes friend', the course held up really well, I hope it'll resist the wrath of the loggers...

i've got two more things to add to the list of hated items:

    1) the wind
    2) vicious dogs

i was cycling today in massey's and the wind was terrible, to add to my enjoyment, a dog bit my leg and i had to get a Tetanus shot, then i hit a tree and fell over...all in a days mtb-ing...

  • At 5:16 p.m., Anonymous Anonymous said…

    Hi guys,

yeah.. waiting on results too.. and pictures, oh, and videos....

  • At 9:42 p.m., Blogger Sean said…

    Unconfirmed results: overall

    1. Nigel Sheckleton
    2. Oisin Boydell?
    3. Fergal Kilkenny?

  • At 12:54 p.m., Blogger Paddy said…

Those results are actually confirmed results given that they now have the medals and everything.

Thanks again to everyone who made it out for the champs, the agm and pub afterwards. It was a great day and 2007 should be a cracking year for MAD.

  • At 1:35 p.m., Blogger Sean said…
