Ticknock night spin Tues 27 March

Put your body to proper use!

Legs are for cycling, not walking, bums are for bike seats, not comfy couches, thumbs are for gear-shifting, not twiddling, mouths are for wearing huge grins after going so fast down a trail section it all turns into a blurrrrrr.....

Meet at Taylors pub at 7pm, ~7:15 at Ticknock.
We'll lash down that new section a few times....wheeeeeee!!!!!

Mr. Secretary

anyone know where we can get a load of small reflectors to stick to the trees? - that'd be real pretty - like Christmas in spring....lovely
the luminous paint would also be good

I don't thinks its a good idea putting too much visible stuff up in the woods - it might attract unwanted attention from the anti-mountainbiking brigade... "ruining the natural habitat" etc. (even though Coillte's forests of a single species of non-native tree aren't exactly natural, whatever 'natural' means anyway - but thats another issue).
Some small markers just to indicate the route I'd imagine wouldn't be a problem though, as long as they are only visible within the forest when you're on the trails.

Best to leave the entrance and exit points as inconspicuous as possible. Nothing like diving under a branch to get onto a trail :)

Inside the trail though... a new subtle pointers would be great :)

true indeed Oisin, the arrows are maybe a better idea than the spray as we can remove them as soon as the trail-profile on the forest floor gets more obvious, though small small markings that won't attract external attention might also work - there may be other options too, we can use that invisible ink and convert our bike lights to black-light like the ones they use in CSI - that'd be cool....

    here's a Potential Loop
though it'd involve hopping off the bike at the 2 fallen trees unless there's another way around them which I doubt, also assumes the trail will stay dry....hmmm...we'll see how things look on the night

Rob, Nigel and myself worked on clearing a path through the loose rocks at the top of the wide trail that goes around side of the wood that we're building the new trails in. This makes it possible to climb up this way (stick to the cleared bit on the left hand side going up), although its still a tricky climb (but fun). It means that we can do the new trail and then climb back to the top, making a nice short loop.

On Fergals map above the climb is from "DH course exit 2" back up to to "new entrance" on the light coloured trail.

nice one Inga, I think Judith might be out too, we won't put you on a Sports Ladies mini-course I promise! - what a farce!

I've a strongly worded letter in the pipeline for the organisers about that one...

Just so you know I disposed of those 'sporty' posters in the appropriate manner, into the recycle bin at home though not before they fell out of my boot when I was cleaning it out, then they rolled down the drive and half unravelled as my neighbour (girl) was walking past - she had a good look, I don't think she was impressed....

Young Shane and Oisin Fitz had difficulty putting their eyeballs back into their sockets after they popped-out upon viewing the err...'sportier' side of the poster!

they were dying to sneak one home....sorry lads, maybe next time!

I know that Mel would have been pissed if they shortened the sports course like that! She would have got a one way ticket to Elite Ladies...

Nice one Fergal, knew I could count on you to cover for me ;) Those posters are now plastered all over my room. Shame on all of you lads ;P

...and she would have been dead right Ryan, I remember specifically the subject of respecting female racers coming up at the Offroad AGM and you mentioning something similar.
I'm in discussion with Andy about it at present and hope to get it properly resolved to everyones satisfaction.

By the way - apologies but I likely cannot make the spin tonight but assume there will be a few there that know the route?
Please advise on a post if you are going so people know that there will definitely be someone there.

That new trail is even better than I had hoped it would be, your going to love it, I was starting to remember my way around it pretty quickly, and the climb back up the rocky route cleared by Oisin and Rob makes a thoroughly enjoyable loop out of that first section...

After several laps we did a lap of the club course and made for home, down the full boneshaker, ...which is boulder strewn again,..There was eight of us out, including Paddy who seems to be getting back in form,it was a great night ride, and our final pre-wales training camp ; )

Nice one Tom, I might get a go on it tomorrow night, were you lonely without a laughing looney running behind you with a camera?

  • At 8:21 a.m., Blogger Oisin said…

Yeah great new trail with fast and dry conditions last night. As Tom said be careful on the bottom section of the boneshaker as that lunatic has been putting out boulders again. Very strategically placed too - around blind turns and on the outside edge of fast corners etc.

back on form .. unfortunately i was back on great form till i had a crash ont he boneshaker. Now my hadn hurts even more :-(

  • At 4:09 p.m., Blogger Fergal said…

sorry too hear that Paddy, man, the rock-laying looney sure has a lot to answer for, if I ever get my hands on him/it.....GGRRRRRR!!!!

  • At 4:43 p.m., Blogger Paddy said…

ha ha .. unfortunately it was the crap-at-cycling looney that caused the crash and not the rock laying looney!

  • At 5:02 p.m., Blogger Fergal said…

    "crap-at-cycling looney" eh?

here Tom! - do you hear what Paddy is calling you?!

    I wouldn't take that!

If I were you, I'd make him eat those words by pulling off a 15-20ft gap/chasm jump over in Wales

Morgan will do one just to show you it can be done,
he's bringing his as-yet-untested-on-the-trail Blur with him

    he was muttering something
about "launching fat gnarly air" or something last I heard, though that could have been the sickness delirium talking...

We were up 3 rock last night too and I couldn't believe the rocks that were across the bottom of the boneshaker..
All the years i'm going up there and I've never seen this person..but sooner or later I will..
