Another MAD Weekend

After the cracking weather, dusty dry trails, and brilliant spins of the long bank holiday weekend comes what's referred to in certain circles as a 'normal' weekend. Theres only two days in this one so we'd better make the most of it.

On Saturday Martins democratic governance continues with a spin to be chosen by the howling masses. Click Here for the poll and get voting as polling finishes on Thursday at 6pm sharp. At the time of going to press only one person is going to get drunk and wake up with a hangover (and its not me for a change) so there should be plenty of people there. This spin will be somewhere between easy, fun and awesome on our trusted spin measuring thingy. Basically it depends where you want to go but bring plenty of food and water as it could last for 3 or 4 hours depending. Further details will be posted when the polls are closed, ballots counted and brown envelopes opened, counted, taken into account over a few beers and promptly forgotten about.

****EDIT**** The Masses have spoken .. or clicked buttons .. or something. Anyway, Ballinastoe was the narrow winner so meet at the carpark there at 10am. Shame on the 2 people staying in bed and remember to torture those 4 who have the big hangovers!
****EDIT****

Sunday sees the savageness being put back into the word savage .. or .. something to that effect. We're off on a long one starting at the yellow house at 9am. Bring loads of food, water and sacrafice small furry animals to the god of good weather and dry trails (St. Morgan of Kilmainham). We're going from the yellow house to Fairy Castle, Prince Willies, Cloon, Crone, around Powerscourt, Djouce, XTC (we all love that one), Powerscourt and then back home. This is one for the improvers amongst you who are yet to come out on the really long spins (points in the direction of John H, Conor, Richie C etc) as well as the normal crew. The pace will be steady without too many breaks and theres plenty of drop out points along the way just in case (not that we'll actually let you drop out)

I won't be out to the Saturday spin (why isn't Kindlestown on the poll?) as I'll be at my cousin's 21st on Friday night. I'm planning on going to the park or something on Saturday anyway, so enjoy Saturday and the savage spin on Sunday (including those improvers who have graduated to savageness!) and see you next weekend! :)

Great morning in the Costa Del Ballinastoe this morning ! Myself, Richie, Carl,Barry, Brendan, Christian, plus two new lads ( Sorry, I'm really bad when it comes to names !!!). The heat made the first climb hot work, but we only stopped once on the way up to talk to 3 walkers. The first downhill section was a welcome treat as it was very dry, and a fair bit cooler than the climb up.

We done the second downhill section twice overall, after a few wrong turns on the fire road.( GPS does'nt lie !)

We then headed back towards the car park, and finnished the morning with a few loops of the trail between the fire road and the car park.

Great spin overall, with only a little crazyness thrown in, but with no injuries to bodies or bikes. And my fear of B'stoe is well and trully bannished! YIPPEEE !!!

    Hey Tobias,
on sunday morning I think we well be heading up via ticknock carpark, and onto fairy castle from there, we will be leaving the YH at 9:00 so that means we should passing thru ticknock car park by 9:25,...here is my number 086 171 3851, text me your number in the morn and i can confirm,

That was fricken awesome, what a savage day!...bone dry trails, a nice pace despite a few mechanicals, I broke my chain as is compulsory when I go on a spin, my poor bike is definitely going to bike-heaven!..But all I can say is that was one of the best spins in a long time, these long spins are great in this weather, and fair play to Oisin Savage Sr, for carrying a very respectable pace on the road home, it felt as though we only took a few minutes to get from Powerscourt,...anyway I am off to do a quick lap of 3-rock ; )

  • At 9:16 p.m., Blogger Stephen said…

Yeah baby :D That was a wicked fantastic spin... That trail off Maulin was very extreme though, rocks were falling out of the sky and all! Broke 4 spokes on that one and ripped a tyre. Should be some sort of health warning on that yoke... Boy was I happy I had the big bike, think I would've been a gonner on little Claudia!

Spin from Powerscourt home was tough at times... Did some things with THE DIAMOND that we wont talk about (that right Graham ;))

All in all, a deadly spin with the premier mtb club and as Morgan put it "You guys really made this spin great for me"

  • At 11:12 a.m., Blogger Paddy said…

steve your poor bikes take so much punishement its amazing! (but then i do go much slower!)

Great spin yesterday ... well once my brake pads settled in and i could actually stop when i wanted to.

Maulin was pure evil in a fun sorta way.

And bloody sunburn on my arms too! :-)

"Did some things with the diamond that we won't talk about"
Steve, that couldn't possibly sound dodgier!!!!

Truth is, we adopted roadie tactics on the return leg.
The pace home from Powerscourt was Animal, Boydel set a savage pace for the leading pack (respect). Steve and myself were shamefully adopting roadie tactics to catch them. Slipstreaming and taking the lead in turns. It really did seem like notime from Powerscourt to Yellow house. Has anyone got a time for it from a Garmin or anything, I'd love know.

What a day though, that spin was unreal, absolutely class!!

on a different note, saw Blades of Glory last night, check it out, it couldn't be funnier:

Jimmy: There all lauhing at us.
Chazz Micheal Michaels: They laughed at Louie Armstrong when he said he was going to the moon, and now he's laughing at them from up there.

Here's the route from Sunday (Google Earth file)...

Enniskerry to the YH took 40 minutes and from the gatehouse of Powerscourt waterfall to Enniskerry was 13 minutes.

That was a brilliant spin. Excellent weather and good distance. There are a few chips out of my frame from the rocky decent off Maulin.
