Trailbuilding in Kindlestown Saturday April 1st

Trailbuilding toolsCoillte have given the go ahead to start work on the track in Kindelstown. The first work day planned is Saturday 1st April. The track will be upgraded to IMBA standards, for the most part reinforcing what's there, in some cases redesigning certain sections.

Aside from the end result of improving the trail, this day will also be a valuable training session in the art of trail design and building. Anybody interested developing these skills should certainly come along to share their experiences with trailbuilders from IMBA and Mountain Meithal.

Work will start at 10:30 sharp, finishing about 4:00. Volunteers should contact Sean Herlihy from EPIC, or alternatively Mick O'Dowd for further information. For insurance purposes, you have to be over 18 to participate.

Sean's Mountainbiking Flapjacks

Have you experienced a sharp pain in your stomach a couple of hours into a ride? That's known among serious bikers as "hunger". The best remedy for this condition is to eat some food. Flapjacks are a popular form of food and ideal for biking because they're high energy and compact. Luckily for us, Sean is adept at making them and is about to share his secret recipe...

Flapjacks warming on a hot disk rotor

425g porridge oats
250g margarine
250g caster sugar
175g syrup (mix of golden syrup and maple syrup, about half and half works best, the more golden the harder the flapjack)
2 small oranges
bar of cooking chocolate

-Prepare a baking tray; if you have one, use one of those black cooking sheets and grease well.
-Grate the rind of the 2 oranges into a large pot.
-Add margarine, syrup and sugar to the pot and heat until all melted and liquefied
-Turn off the heat and start adding in the oats, mixing until all oats are completely covered by the mixture.
-Put on baking tray (about 3/4 inch depth) and place in oven, about 170'C until golden brown, around 20 mins but it does vary so keep an eye on it.
-Leave to cool and add a topping, chocolate is best, melted marmalade also works, be adventurous and try different ones.
-It's best to cut them before they cool fully when they are softer and less crumbly.
-You can add more things like raisins, nuts etc. to the mix.

Yum yum

We're considering adding a home-baking round to the 2006 MAD Club Champs so get preparing...

Hi guys
Saturday - 10 am at Yellow House. We're going to do a few laps of MAD circuit including the new bit built by Mick and Gar. Everybody welcome

Sunday - 10 am Yellow House. After the success of Kindelstown a few weeks ago, we're going to go again. Unfortunately we need a bit of help getting there so if you have a car available will you kindly bring it along and take some bikers too. It would be much appreciated! If you need a lift or have some room in the car can you drop me a line and I'll try to sort it out.

See y'all soon

New MAD club jerseys - order by March 14th

A sneak peek at the new jerseyHi all,
MAD is already the premier Irish mtb club - and it's about to become the best dressed.

We are now taking orders for the newly designed MAD club jersey. We want to have these by April 23rd (first NPS race) so we need you to place your order as soon as possible. I need to receive your order by March 14th and will collect payment soon after.

The design is being finalized but the main colours will be black and green. You can email me if you want to see a rough draft.

The cost will be approximately €40 per garment but will depend on the total number ordered - we hope to reduce this a bit if the order is large enough. They are available in sizes Small to XX Large (I take a Large if that's any indication).

Depending on demand we may put rider names (or any text you like) on each jersey. Bear in mind this will make it difficult if you need to swap a jersey with someone else for size.

Please send the following information to jerseys@madmtb.com:

  • Name:
  • Phone number:
  • Email:
  • Number of jerseys:
  • Size (S-XXL):
  • Long/Short sleeve:
  • Name/Text on back (if wanted):

Remember, March 14th is the deadline.

Thanks,
Morgan
